Sunday, December 11th saw over forty members of the Black Watch family out in force to pay their respects to the Veterans at the Ste. Anne's Veterans Hospital. The day started with a parade of hackles making it's presence known as members from the unit arrived at the hospital. Just after noon, combined teams of Cadets, Reserves and Association members spread throughout the fourteen floors in the hospital.
Santa made his presence known with the jingle of bells and a hearty Ho-Ho-Ho as he visited the various wards and spoke to the many patients. Santa's team of elves (the CO L/Col. T. MacKay, Cadet CO Major S. Bergeron, RSM C. Hamel and his wife Jocelyn and several others bearing gifts and chocolates) were kept busy wishing season's greetings and best wishes to not only our own patients but also to the many other patients and staff.
Many thanks go to our Treasurer, Doug McAdam who made sure that large bags of goodies and special treats were available to be handed out to those veterans who were "nice" this year. Hand-wrapped packages of Swiss choclate were handed out to many other patients, staff and visitors. There were many a smile and twinkle in the eyes of these special individuals receiving their treats from Santa and his merry band of elves.
Next came music and dancing as Johnny Maloney's band entertained a packed auditorium. The Regimental Pipes and Drums entered with a rousing cheer from the crowd and played a fine selection of tunes. The day came to a close as big fat fluffy flakes of snow slowly started to fall.
The Executive Committee of the Black Watch Association would like to thank all those individuals from the Regimental family who took time away from their own families and showed up to help us bring a smile and happy memories to the veterans, staff and the many visitors. |
